Here is a unique sequence of Ukrainian carols such as might be sung by a party of singers going from house to house to celebrate Christmas and to entertain — in hope of the traditional reward. Some focus on the Christmas story; others are wholly secular — flattering, flirtatious or wheedling to extract the best of hospitality from their host. The entire set takes about forty minutes, but shorter selections can be very effective in performance.
