One of a set of seven delightful psalm settings by Heinrich Schütz (from Opus 5, Becker Psalter settings) in fresh English paraphrases. Schütz's psalms are tuneful, rhythmic, easy to learn, and useful throughout the year.

A guide to the liturgical use of the psalms is included.

Words

Give thanks to God, for He is good. Acclaim His grace and favor.
He saved his people from their foe. His mercy is forever.
From east and west, from north and south, gathered from every nation,
Be it confessed by every mouth. Tell of the Lord's salvation.

They wandered through the wilderness, yet found no place to dwell in.
Hunger and thirst brought deep distress. Their spirits sank within them.
Then they did cry to God on high and He on them had pity.
For then He showed them a straight road to lead them to their city.

Rivers He turned to desert sand, water springs changed to dry ground.
Fruitful field became barren land where wickedness did abound.
But for the just He turned the dust into sweet water flowing,
And founded there a city fair mid fields and vineyards growing.
