This is a wedding song with a difference. The bells have stopped ringing and there's a pause for a slightly more realistic reflection on what lies ahead. Peter's words are about facing the whole path of a relationship from passion and optimism, through disenchantment and struggle, to, hopefully, new ways of acknowledging each other and living together. I haven't marked any dynamics but my own sense of the piece is that it grows in volume and feeling from a quiet and warm start, via a quite strident verse 3 to a really strong verse 4 and then a gentler verse 5. Give the fermata plenty of time. A recording by Rudsambee company of singers is available under the title 'Take my hand' on the album citrus and honey (RUBEECD002)
Words
Take my hand and we'll walk on together to a young upland meadow where skylarks sing and green shoots of fescue and friendship grow strong
Take my hand and we'll walk on together where a warm southern breeze whispers citrus and honey and the ripe fruit of passion tastes heady and sweet
Take my hand and we'll walk on together through a black and white city of clockwork routine where time in a tunnel kaleidoscopes by
Take my hand and we'll walk on together on a hard rocky shoreline where the east wind bites and cold grey pain tries to snatch away feeling
Take my hand and we'll walk on together till flames spring again from a smouldering core melting the snows of the land that we share
Take my hand...
