This is a set of three Gaelic songs that are highly evocative of Scottish folk song and folk lore while at the same time being fresh and original. The set includes a lament, a love song, and a wonderful soliloquy ‘at the edge of the ocean’. All three pieces feature sections of vocables of the kind sung in traditional Gaelic puirt-a-beul or ‘mouth music’.
Dàn nan ròn was premiered in 2011 by the Paragon Ensemble and young singers from Voice Factory in Glasgow.
A great project for an enterprising treble voice ensemble.
